About this tool

Merging copies the pages of each document, in order, into a new PDF. Nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed, so text stays selectable and images keep their quality. That also means the merged file is roughly as large as the files you put in.

If the result is too big to email, run it through Compress PDF straight away using the button under the result: the file is passed along in memory, without downloading it first.

Known limitations

  • Bookmarks (the outline panel) and document-level form data are not carried over. Pages, text, images and web links on the pages are.
  • Each PDF can be up to 200 MB and all of them together up to 500 MB. Phones with little memory may struggle well before that.
  • Password-protected PDFs need their password. It is used only in your browser tab to open the file, and the merged file has no password.
  • Pages keep their original size, so a mix of A4 and Letter documents stays mixed.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?

No. The files are read and combined by JavaScript running in your browser, in a background worker. You can confirm it in your browser's developer tools: no file is sent over the network.

Can I merge only some pages of a PDF?

Merge first, then use Extract PDF Pages on the result to keep only the pages you need, in any order. Or extract the pages from each file first and merge those.

Is there a limit on the number of files?

Up to 100 files at once, within the 500 MB total. In practice the limit is your device's memory.
