How to use the Split PDF

Example
handbook.pdf, 10 pages Ranges: 1-3, 4-8, 9-end
handbook-pages-1-3.pdf (3 pages) handbook-pages-4-8.pdf (5 pages) handbook-pages-9_10.pdf (2 pages)
About this tool
Write ranges separated by commas, such as 1-3, 4-8, 9-end. Each range becomes one file. A range can run backwards, like 5-1, to reverse the page order inside that part. Mistakes, such as a page that does not exist, are explained before anything is created.
To pull a few pages into a single new document instead of several files, Extract PDF Pages is quicker.
Known limitations
- Ranges use page positions in the file (the first page is 1), not the numbers printed on the pages.
- Bookmarks and document-level form data are not copied into the parts.
- Up to 500 parts in one go, and files up to 200 MB.
Frequently asked questions
What does “end” mean in a range?
It stands for the last page, so you do not need to know the page count. “9-” works the same way as “9-end”.
Does splitting reduce quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are. Text stays selectable and images are not re-compressed.
Why is each part almost as large as the original?
Pages can share resources such as fonts and images. Each part needs its own copy of what its pages use, so the parts can add up to more than the original.
