About this tool

The writing styles fix text typed with Caps Lock on, or bring a set of headings in line with one style. The code styles turn plain phrases into identifiers: camelCase for JavaScript variables, PascalCase for class names, snake_case for Python and databases, kebab-case for URLs and CSS classes, and CONSTANT_CASE for constants.

Code styles also split existing identifiers, so userIDNumber becomes user_id_number in snake_case.

Known limitations

  • Title Case lowercases articles, coordinating conjunctions and prepositions of up to three letters. Strict Chicago style also lowercases longer prepositions such as “with” and “from”; adjust those by hand.
  • Sentence case cannot recognize proper nouns. Names like “Paris” or “Toolora” become lowercase unless they start a sentence; check them afterwards.
  • Code styles (camelCase, snake_case and others) drop punctuation and symbols, because they are not valid in most identifiers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Title Case and Capitalize Each Word?

Title Case keeps short words such as “of”, “and” and “the” lowercase unless they come first or last. Capitalize Each Word capitalizes every word without exception, which is common on social media but not a standard editorial style.

Will it keep acronyms like NASA or brand names like iPhone?

In Title Case, yes: words that already contain capitals after the first letter are kept as typed. Other styles, such as lowercase and Sentence case, change every letter by design.

Does it work with accented letters and other alphabets?

Yes. Conversion uses your browser's Unicode case rules, so letters such as é, ß or Cyrillic characters are handled. Languages without upper and lower case, such as Chinese, are left unchanged.
